My first Randonneur Round the Year (RRTY) series is complete! One randonneur-distance ride (200km or longer) every calendar month for 12 consecutive months. Hard! (copied from yacf amd dated the same):
- November 2012: Boudicca's Revenge 200 perm – my first ever audax, very wet and windy
- December: Norfolk Nips 2 100 +ECE100 – over-ambitious at the start, paid for it later
- January 2013: LEL by DIY 200 (starting at 1am!) – bitterly bitterly cold
- February: Prestayn-Holyhead-Prestatyn 200 perm – The snow was too deep in Wales to do anything but ride along the coast
- March: The Old Squit 200 – Starting to feel the benefits of long-distance cycling
- April: Yr Elenydd 300 – completely not ready for this level of climbing
- May: Bryan Chapman Memorial 600 – getting better at climbing
- June: To Holl and Back 600 – Fast start, but damnable headwind on the middle leg!
- July: Rutland Weekend 300 – I could've perm'ed this one, I saw so few other riders after the start
- August: London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) 200 of 1400 – the organiser's rules are that if you can prove more than 200km was ridden in August then it can count towards RRTY. And since I was with Mike at Market Rasen at 6am-ish on Thursday, it counts
- September: Flatlands 600 – mental torture into the wind on the fens
- October: The AAAnfractuous 200 – great fun: not quite a goat-esque performance, but a respectable 200-time for me, and with hills to boot
That's it now, I've done what I set out to do and you will never see me on the Brompton again on an audax1. Yesterday's hilly performance was a sure sign that the year's riding has done me good Now to the next one: it's only two months in, but from little acorns, etc., I just need to find something else to do in October …
1. That's probably not true
